The Town of Irmo welcomed its newest Councilwoman, Phyllis Coleman, as she officially took her oath of office in a momentous council meeting held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. Coleman is the first Black elected councilwoman on Irmo’s Town Council.
The November election, marked by a closely contested battle, saw Coleman triumph over her opponent, Gabriel Penfield, by a narrow margin. The community rallied behind Coleman, recognizing her commitment and vision for the town’s future.
