Pro Skateboarders Hit Irmo

IRMO – The Nike Creased Skateboard Tour rolled into Irmo on Tuesday, April 7, making a stop at the Irmo Skate Park in Rawls Creek Park.

The tour features 10 professional skateboarders traveling along the East Coast to promote the launch of the redesigned Nike Air Force 1, created specifically for skateboarders. The tour began in New York on April 1 and is scheduled to conclude April 9 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Professional skaters were joined by dozens of local riders at the Irmo park, where they demonstrated tricks and skated alongside the community.

“It’s cool,” said local skateboarder Tim. “They fall down just like we do.”

The tour’s roster includes Karim Callender, Ville Wester, Antonio Durao, Poe Pinson, Casper Brooker, Troy Gipson, Elijah Odom, Georgia Martin, Joseph Campos, Cyrus Bennett, Jack O’Grady, and Bobby Worrest. The group represents an international mix of talent, including riders from Denmark, Australia, Great Britain, and across the United States.

“I’ve been skateboarding professionally since I was 16,” said O’Grady, now 26. “It takes being good and getting good sponsors.”

The event was supported by Blue Tile Skateboards, which carries Nike skateboarding products.

“The idea is for boarders to be able to come out and skate with some of the best professionals in the world,” said tour producer Quinn Baser. “We’re stopping at some of the parks that local skate shops recommend.”
