Recap Town Council Meeting June 17

Irmo Town Council met on Tuesday, June 17 in the Irmo Municipal Building located at 7300 Woodrow Street.

The meeting began at the new time of 6pm.

First order of business was the swearing in of Mike Ward as a new council member. Ward won the seat that became vacant last March in a special election on June 3.

A public hearing was called on the amendment of the off street parking regulations.
With no remarks made the public hearing closed.

Town Administrator Courtney Dennis was recognized for his 23 years of service to the town and his final town council meeting before retiring and going into the private sector in July.

The Law Office of Smokey Brown , PC was acknowledged as the June 2025 Small Business of the Month. Smokey Brown received the plaque from council.

Lt. Grinstead of the Irmo Police Department was named Employee of the Quarter. Grinstead has served Irmo since 2001.

The only item in unfinished business was the ordinance to amend off street parking which passed.

New business included the first reading of an ordinance to allow the business license and class schedule to be updated each odd numbered year.

An approval of a contract with SC Career Kids in the around to $10,500 passed to allow there ’Safety Town’ programs to be implemented in three schools in Irmo including H.E. Corley, Dutch Fork and Irmo elementary schools. “We’ve backed this program since day one,” said Mayor Danielson.

A contract to seal and stripe Gibbes Street and Lexington Ave. was awarded to Palmetto Sealcoat for $9800. The funds come from Lexington County as part of the CTC and Public Service Department which requires them by law to distribute a portion of funds collected to road projects.

The town approved a ‘Irmo Town Limits’ Fall Concert to bring back the bands that were rained out during the Spring series in the amount of $15,000 taken from the Hospitality Funds. Also an approval was made for a Fourth of July Laser Light Show in Moore Park for $5,900. This is an Irmo Events Committee project and there will be free hot dogs while the supplies last.

Cindy Reeves from Rose Oak HOA was appointmented to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Her term expires in 2029. Kimberly Winn of Artistic Aspirations was appointed to the Accommodations Tax Committee which meets once a year to decide distribution of the accommodations tax. Her term will expire in 2028.
