River Springs Elementary School’s 2nd-grade students enjoyed a special Holiday Reading Celebration on Friday, December 20, in the school auditorium. Dressed in cozy pajamas, the children listened intently as guest speakers from the community read holiday-themed stories.
One of the highlights was Columbia Fire Department firefighter William Lynch, who brought along fellow firefighters Mark Honeg, Eva Demer, and David Palevich to share in the festive spirit. Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson also participated, reading a cheerful story about sleepy snowmen to the eager students.
Second-grade teacher Lauri Williams helped keep the four classes engaged throughout the event, which showcased the joys of reading during the holiday season.
After the readings, Mayor Danielson took a trip down memory lane. While visiting the school’s handprint wall, he discovered his daughter Kristen’s handprint from when she attended River Springs Elementary. Kristen was part of the first third-grade class to walk the school’s halls. “That was a surprise,” said Mayor Danielson, reflecting on the touching moment.
The event not only celebrated literacy but also strengthened ties between the school and its community, leaving everyone with a warm holiday feeling.
