SC Career Kids has announced a new partnership with Sheriff Leon Lott and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to bring the mobile Safety Town program directly into schools.
The in-school field trip initiative, designed for students in Pre-K through 2nd grade, blends fun, hands-on career exploration activities with critical safety lessons in a unique, miniature town setting.
Aligned with South Carolina’s education standards, SC Career Kids’ Safety Town covers a range of topics, including pedestrian, school bus, bike, stranger, fire, water, gun, medicine, and traffic safety, as well as emergency preparedness. By collaborating with local law enforcement, SC Career Kids aims to equip children with essential life skills while fostering trust and positive relationships between students and community officers.
Sheriff Leon Lott expressed his enthusiasm for the program.
“After 28 years of saying ‘Safe and Sound Town,’ I’ll have to get used to saying Safety Town. But the mission remains the same—to ensure our youngest community members grow up safe, smart, and secure,” Lott said.
Katy Wiggs, Founder of SC Career Kids, echoed the excitement for this collaboration.
“We are honored to work with Sheriff Lott and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Together, we’re not just teaching safety; we’re shaping a culture of safety and mutual respect in our schools and communities,” Wiggs said.
Safety Town is a collaborative effort among multiple community organizations devoted to providing children with the skills necessary to prevent injury and prepare for emergencies. By introducing children to the professionals who serve their communities, the program builds trust and reinforces the value of teamwork in creating a safer environment for everyone.
