On Friday, April 12, the SC Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Morihiko Nakara, delighted audiences at Nursery Road Elementary and Irmo Elementary with their performance of ‘Carnival of Animals.’ This special event, part of the Philharmonic’s ‘Music in My Neighborhood’ program, brought the enchanting sounds of the orchestra directly to the students.
The timeless piece by Saint-Saëns, composed in the 1800s, came to life as the talented ensemble of musicians transported listeners into the magical world of the animal kingdom. Adding to the immersive experience, Irmo Mayor Bill Danielson provided engaging narration, weaving a captivating story around the musical journey.
‘Music in My Neighborhood’ is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering a deeper connection between students and the orchestra, as well as igniting a newfound passion for music education. By bringing live performances directly to local schools, the program seeks to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm for learning musical instruments among students and citizens alike.
Through initiatives like ‘Music in My Neighborhood,’ the SC Philharmonic Orchestra continues to demonstrate its commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of our community while nurturing the next generation of musicians and music lovers.
