School holds Safety Town Program

On April 23 Harbison West Elementary Gifted and Talent Development Magnet School welcomed the SC Career Kids Safety Town program, providing an educational experience for all students in Pre-K through 2nd grade.

The event was designed to equip young learners with essential safety skills in a fun and interactive environment. Students participated in various activities that taught them about pedestrian safety, traffic rules, and emergency preparedness. Through role-playing and hands-on demonstrations, children learned how to recognize safe behaviors and make informed decisions in various situations.

Teachers and staff at Harbison West were thrilled with the visit.

“This program is vital for our youngest students,” said Jennifer Wahrmund, organizer of the event, “It not only teaches them critical safety skills but also boosts their confidence in handling real-life situations.”

The SC Career Kids Safety Town program is known for its commitment to promoting safety education across South Carolina. By creating a miniature town, children can practice safety skills related to traffic, fire, and personal safety in a controlled and supportive setting.

As the day unfolded students asked questions and participated in activities. The program’s facilitators emphasized the importance of safety awareness, encouraging students to share what they learned with their families at home.
