On Thursday, December 19, Serve and Connect held its annual Spreading Joy packing event at the Municipal Building of Irmo. Town officials, local and state law enforcement, business owners, and volunteers came together to pack 200 boxes filled with nourishing dry goods for families in need during the holiday season. The event also distributed chicken, beef, and ham to supplement the food packages.
Kim Dennis, Serve and Connect’s Director of Operations and Strategic Partnerships, welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of every participant’s role. “No matter how you participate today—whether it’s putting food in the boxes, filling the boxes, or stacking the boxes—you are making an impact in the community,” she said.
Sponsors and participants in the accompanying Resource Fair included Free Medical Clinic, Access Home Care, Sharing God’s Love, and the Irmo Police Foundation, offering additional resources to families in need. Publix provided a significant portion of the food, along with contributions from the Irmo Community Police Foundation, Irmo Police Department, Midlands Family Chiropractic, and the Town of Irmo.
“This is a cause that we don’t think about on a daily basis,” said Irmo Town Mayor Bill Danielson. “It’s desperately needed in our community.”
Serve and Connect, founded to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and citizens, works year-round to unify communities through meaningful initiatives. Events like Spreading Joy are held statewide throughout the year, supporting families and fostering positive community engagement.
