Columbia, SC – Seven Oaks Elementary Global Magnet (School District 5 of Lexington-Richland Counties) hosted the Celebrate Freedom Foundation (CFF) as their Learner Profile Experience guests on Friday, providing students with an engaging, hands-on learning experience.
Seven Oaks is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) Candidate School, working toward official authorization to align with Irmo High School’s IB Programme. The PYP framework emphasizes inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of global perspectives.
During the event, CFF presenters captivated students with interactive demonstrations focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) while also paying tribute to veterans and active military members. Encouraged to act as Inquirers, a key IB Learner Profile characteristic, students asked insightful questions that sparked meaningful discussions on aviation and space exploration.
Tony Rodriguez, a retired Marine and former Columbia firefighter, shared why he volunteers with Celebrate Freedom Foundation:
“We are veterans inspiring the next generation!”
Seven Oaks students left the experience with a newfound appreciation for STEAM fields, aviation, and military service, embodying the spirit of curiosity and global citizenship that the IB Programme fosters.
