Shots fired during home invasion

On January 20, 2022, at 7:40 p.m., Irmo Police Officers responded to a home invasion at a residence within the New Friarsgate Subdivision. Once on scene, Officers learned that a black male wearing khaki pants and a New York Giants’ hoodie/jacket entered the residence through a back door.

The homeowner, who was armed, discharged their firearm when the suspect charged toward them. The suspect then fled the area on foot. With the assistance of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, a perimeter was established and Richland County Sheriff’s Department K9 units were requested and deployed. The suspect was not apprehended and it is unknown at this time if he was struck by gunfire.

No physical injuries were sustained by the residents of the home. The Criminal Investigations Division responded and is actively investigating this incident.
