South Carolina Philharmonic brings classical music to local watering holes

Inaugural event brings string quartet to Craft and Draft in Irmo with the New Chamber Crawl Series

The South Carolina Philharmonic presents the inaugural performance of its new Chamber Crawl Series on February 16th, 2022, 7:30 PM at Craft and Draft (7583 St Andrews Rd, Irmo, SC 29063). The concert will boast a string quartet that will feature SC Phil Concertmaster Mary Lee Taylor Kinosian (violin), Principal Violin 2 Damir Horvat, Principal Viola Audrey Harris, and SC Philharmonic member Tzu-Ying Liao (cello). Beer and wine will be available at a cash bar. General admission tickets are only $15, and concert-goers may upgrade their experience by adding a charcuterie board by Chef Ros for $10. Doors open at 7:00 PM, and the concert starts at 7:30 PM. Tickets may be purchased at www.scphilharmonic.com.

The impetus for the SC Philharmonic’s Chamber Crawl Series came from the success of various community outreach events that brought classical music to non-traditional performance spaces during the orchestra’s 2020/2021 Season. Venues like The Hunter-Gatherer Hangar and Historic Columbia properties provided the symphony the opportunity to take classical music from the Koger Center stage and bring it to multiple communities in the Columbia area. The Chamber Crawl Series, under the direction of the Philharmonic’s Education and Community Engagement Director Susan Cafferty, aims to broaden the service area of the organization by bringing chamber ensembles to neighborhood watering holes around the region.

The SC Philharmonic was excited to partner with Craft and Draft (Irmo) for the series’ inaugural performance due to the restaurant’s connection to the Irmo area, and its wonderful event space that will provide an excellent listening experience for patrons. The ability to provide a cash bar with expert-chosen beers and wines for the event will also serve the SC Phil’s ongoing goal to make classical musical accessible and unbutton the perception that the experience may be buttoned-up. “Music is universal in the way it connects with people,” said Susan Cafferty. “This series is a great opportunity to make more connections with the music by bringing it to Midlands bars and restaurants that are craving new experiences for their community and customers.”

General admission tickets may be purchased for $15 or with a charcuterie board upgrade for $25 at scphilharmonic.com or by calling the SC Philharmonic at 803.771.7937.
