South Carolina Philharmonic to Perform Music of Studio Ghibli

COLUMBIA – Fans of film and music alike are in for a treat later this month when the South Carolina Philharmonic presents The Music of Studio Ghibli on Saturday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Koger Center for the Arts.

Founded in 1985 by visionary director Hayao Miyazaki and producer Isao Takahata, Studio Ghibli is one of the world’s most celebrated animation studios. Known for its breathtaking visuals and heartfelt storytelling, the studio has created beloved classics such as My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke.

“This concert is a dream for both movie lovers and music lovers,” said Morihiko Nakahara, Music Director of the SC Philharmonic. “Hisaishi’s work transcends the screen. It’s music that can stand alone in a concert hall, yet still stirs the same emotions as when you first saw these films.”

Audiences in the Midlands will have the chance to hear Joe Hisaishi’s iconic scores performed live by the full South Carolina Philharmonic.

Tickets range from $39 (balcony) to $69 (premium seating) and can be purchased online at SCPhilharmonic.com or by calling the Koger Center Box Office at 803-251-2222 (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.). Patrons can also bundle tickets through the Philharmonic’s Compose Your Own Subscription option.
