State Museum Extends Disney Costume Exhibition

COLUMBIA — The South Carolina State Museum has announced that Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume will remain on view through January 4, extending its original October closing date.

The exhibition, created by the Walt Disney Archives, features 70 original costumes from Disney films, including those worn by iconic characters such as Cinderella, Maleficent, and Jack Sparrow. Guests can explore the creative process behind costume design with concept notes, designer quotes, and original sketches from award-winning artists, including Academy Award winners Sandy Powell and Colleen Atwood.

“This exhibition has sparked the imagination of visitors of all ages,” said Amy Bartow-Melia, State Museum Executive Director. “We are delighted to extend its time at the museum so we can continue sharing these extraordinary costumes, and the incredible artistry behind them, with our guests.”

Since opening in May, Heroes & Villains has drawn visitors from across the state and beyond. The extension gives more time for families and Disney fans to experience the blockbuster exhibition.

General museum admission is $13 for adults, $11 for seniors and military, and $10 for children ages 3–12 (ages 2 and under are free). The Disney exhibition requires an additional ticket: $20 adults, $18 seniors and military, $15 children. Museum members receive discounted rates.
