Steve Walker honored for his volunteer service

Shepherd’s Center of St. Andrews has announced Steve Walker has been named a 2026 National Volunteer Honoree in the National Gallery of Volunteer Excellence by Aging Forward (formerly Shepherd’s Centers of America).

The honor celebrates outstanding volunteers whose dedication and service have made a lasting impact on older adults and their communities.

Walker is an integral part of Shepherd’s Center of St. Andrews ‘s volunteer team, dedicating his time, talents, and passion to supporting the Center’s programs. He steered the Center through Covid when others in the neighborhood shut down, and, with his tech expertise, he’s been tireless in keeping the programs cutting-edge.

He has helped foster a more connected, empowered, and compassionate community while mitigating social isolation and loneliness that plagues older neighbors.

“Steve is a pillar of our Center. We could not offer the wide variety of classes and activities we have without Steve, who always finds a way to make things work,” Shepherd’s Center board President Maribeth Corbettsaid. “Steve also brings his experience and many skills to our membership as a teacher of photography classes, participant in our creative writing group and readers circle, and all-around tech expert. We are lucky, indeed, to have Steve as a member of our Shepherd’s Center family.”

Shepherd’s Center of St. Andrews is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring older adults through lifelong learning, community, and service.
