District Five students have launched Fox Productions, a business to shine a spotlight on local talent.
In a showcase of talent and entrepreneurship, a group of special education students at Dutch Fork High School are launching a talent show for students with disabilities.
The student-led business, named aims to provide a supportive platform for performers of all abilities to share their skills with the community.
The students of Fox Productions have been working for the past three months to create an evening of entertainment. Every aspect of the project is being handled by students, from recruiting talent to marketing the show and coordinating event logistics.
“I am so excited to see all of their hard work pay off and the opportunity to show our community the skills our students have mastered,” said Teacher Hayley Elkins. “This is a great group of students, and I am so happy others get to see that as well.”
Student-led businesses are a real-world venture managed and run by students, which helps them gain practical skills, real-world experience, and a greater sense of responsibility. These businesses benefit students by developing essential hard and soft skills like marketing, teamwork, and problem-solving, boosting their confidence and providing valuable networking and career preparation.
The talent show will feature a lineup of performances from students at Dutch Fork High School, Irmo High School, and staff members. The performances will include musical acts, dance numbers, stand-up comedy, magic acts, and more. The students have also partnered with local businesses to help with sponsorship and donating fabulous raffle prizes, providing refreshments, and creating a true community-wide effort.
The inaugural event is scheduled for November 18 at 6 pm in the Dutch Fork High School Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 per person, raffle tickets for $2, along with the availability to buy/order creations from other student-led businesses from Dutch Fork High School and Irmo High School. Concessions will also be available.
Raffle tickets are available in advance by contacting Hayley Elkins at [email protected] 803-979-5867 or Holly Boone at [email protected] 863-399-0375.
