COLUMBIA, S.C. – Veteran educator Sylvia Wright has officially announced her candidacy for South Carolina Superintendent of Education, pledging to put students, teachers, and families at the center of her campaign.
With more than 20 years of experience in classrooms and leadership roles at the elementary, secondary, collegiate, and district levels, Wright has built her career as a teacher, mentor, and advocate for public education. She is widely recognized for her collaborative approach with parents and her efforts to secure the resources educators need to succeed.
Wright holds a bachelor’s degree and three master’s degrees—including one from The Citadel—and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education degree at the University of South Carolina.
“I am running for Superintendent because our children deserve the very best education we can provide,” Wright said. “We cannot afford to leave any child behind. I am committed to supporting teachers, revitalizing classrooms, and ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.”
Her campaign priorities include:
-
Advocating for Teachers through recruitment, retention, and respect.
-
Student-Centered Innovation with arts, STEM, and career-readiness programs.
-
Equity Across Communities to strengthen rural, suburban, and urban schools.
-
Transparency & Accountability between schools, families, and communities.
Since launching her campaign, Wright has visited 40 of South Carolina’s 46 counties, meeting with parents, educators, and community leaders to hear their concerns and ideas.
“This campaign isn’t about politics—it’s about people, our children, and the future of South Carolina,” Wright added.
