A new worship experience is taking shape in Irmo, created with all families in mind. Table Church is the vision of Reverend Jill Williams of Saint Simon and Saint Jude Episcopal Church, located just off Kennerly Road.
This innovative, sensory-friendly service is designed to welcome worshipers of all ages and abilities—grandparents, parents, and children alike—into an environment that is calm, inclusive, and spiritually nourishing.

The 30- to 40-minute service includes simplified bulletins, dimmed lighting, and gentle, singable music. Laminated picture schedules, noise-canceling headphones, sensory-friendly seating, and weighted toys help create a supportive setting, particularly for children with sensory sensitivities.
Children actively participate in the service by lighting candles, saying prayers, and setting the communion table. Following the service, all attendees are invited to stay for dinner.
“We know families come in all shapes and sizes, and we want everyone to feel welcome here,” said Rev. Jill. “We make it easy to come on Sunday evening by serving dinner—so families don’t have to worry about it for one night.”
Rev. Jill has also authored a sensory-friendly book about communion to further support understanding and inclusion.
Table Church will launch on Sunday, August 10 at 4:30 p.m. with a special Blessing of the Backpacks. The service will be held weekly, except on weekends preceding a Monday school holiday.
“This gives families a chance to enjoy one another or get away if they desire,” added Rev. Jill.
