CHAPIN — The Center for Advanced Technical Studies will open its doors to the community with an Open House and Student Showcase on Tuesday, February 3, from 5–7 p.m. at 916 Mt. Vernon Church Road in Chapin.
During the event, parents, students, and community members will have the opportunity to tour the entire campus and engage with students and instructors about current projects, research, and hands-on learning taking place at The Center. Teachers and students will be available to answer questions and discuss curriculum, technical applications, and career pathways connected to each program.
The Center serves students in grades 9–12 across Lexington-Richland School District Five and offers specialized instruction through 17 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Recently, The Center announced the addition of three new courses: Drone Technologies, Farm Animal Production, and Baking and Pastries.
CTE programs at The Center include:
Aerospace Engineering; Agriculture/Wildlife Management; Auto Repair Technology; Bioengineering Systems; Biomedical Science; Building Construction; Culinary Arts; Cyber Security/Networking; Digital Art and Design; Electrical Systems; Civil Engineering; HVAC; Law Enforcement; Fire & Rescue; Media Technology; Veterinary Science; and Welding.
“This event opens the doors to the public and district families to showcase the great research, technical application, and career-ready programming at The Center,” said Roy Frick, School District Five assistant director of The Center. “The incredible work of our CTE instructors prepares students for the workforce and provides a rigorous foundation for those pursuing postsecondary studies. We look forward to welcoming our community to experience the excellence of our students and CTE programs.”
