LEXINGTON-RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT FIVE — The Tri-District Arts Consortium (TriDAC) summer program is celebrating 40 years of providing advanced arts education opportunities to students from three Midlands school districts.
To commemorate the milestone, TriDAC commissioned sculptor Bob Doster to create a sculpture celebrating the program’s four decades of arts education. The sculpture was presented August 17 to School District Five Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts Roger Simpson and Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross Sr. by TriDAC Director Donna Wilson.
Founded in 1985, TriDAC provides elite arts training for students in grades 5-8 from Lexington School District One, Lexington-Richland School District Five and Richland School District Two.
Admission to TriDAC is competitive and requires a teacher or parent nomination, a formal application and an audition in one of seven areas: creative writing, dance, chorus, drama, visual art, band or orchestra.
Selected students participate in an intensive three-week summer program led by experienced arts educators. The program concludes with public showcases where students have the opportunity to share their work with the community.
Nominations for the 2027 TriDAC program will begin being accepted in October. Students and families interested in participating should watch for information about the nomination and application process.
