Valet Tech: Norton Anti Virus

by Matt Belyus

Thank you for checking out the Valet Tech corner.  We will be writing tech articles without all the tech jargon so you can better understand the technology and how it can benefit you.

We wrote an article on various anti-virus software packages, but it didn’t do justice to those reviewed. This article will be the second of an in-depth series on one of the major anti-virus offerings.

This week we are discussing the granddaddy of them all, Norton. Peter Norton founded Norton Computing in 1982 (original IBM PC).  Peter Norton is a legend in the computer industry, the same as Bill Gates (Microsoft) and Steve Jobs (Apple).

When you visit their website https://us.norton.com, you will see a tab for Products & Services. Select the All-in-One Plans, which will list several packages.

We recommend the Norton 360 with LifeLock Select.  This system is comparable to the Bitdefender package that we recently reviewed.  This plan is currently priced (discounted) @ 99.48 for five devices per year. For less than 100/yr, you will be able to protect ten devices which can be Windows, Mac, iOS (iPhone/iPad), and Android.   So if you have ten devices to watch, that is 1.66 /month/device.

  • Real-time Threat Protection for your Device: protecting you from multiple avenues of attack
  • Password Manager:  An easy way to manage all of your passwords.
  • Smart Firewall:  Blocking outside access to your computer but also learning what you access to heave you some headaches.
  • 100GB Cloud Backup:  Backing up your files to the cloud is excellent if you delete something accidentally or have a ransomware attack
  • Secure VPN:  Highly recommended to keep your data safe when using public wifi.
  • Dark Web Monitoring: Checks to see if your password or financial information is on the dark web, which may allow access to your accounts.
  • Parental Control: Control what people can access by blocking inappropriate sites.
  • School Time: Limit the time devices can access the internet.
  • One-Bureau Credit Monitoring: Alerts on changes to your credit score and when accounts are opened.
  • LifeLock Identity Alert™ System: Alerts when accounts are opened using your social security number and other purchases that are not normal for you.
  • Million Dollar Protection™ Package: A guarantee if there is identity theft.

There are many more features to this software, but these are the most important in our mind when it comes to securing your devices and information.
