Many people visit their doctor feeling persistently fatigued, foggy, or unwell, only to be told their lab work falls within “normal” ranges. According to local functional nutrition practitioner Jennifer Tardy, those results may not always reflect optimal health.
Tardy, founder of Eating for Healing Nutrition and Wellness, explains that standard laboratory reference ranges are based on population averages, not on what is considered ideal for long-term wellness. With chronic conditions affecting a majority of adults nationwide, she says “normal” results may still coincide with early dysfunction.
“For example, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), vitamin D, and blood sugar levels can fall within standard ranges while still contributing to symptoms,” Tardy said. “A patient may technically be ‘normal’ on paper, yet their body is already showing signs of imbalance.”
Through her Functional Medicine Program, Tardy focuses on identifying root causes of symptoms before they progress into diagnosable disease. The approach emphasizes optimal lab ranges, systems-based assessment, and individualized nutrition and lifestyle strategies rather than symptom management alone.
“I see many clients who were told nothing was wrong, yet they didn’t feel well,” she said. “Our goal is to listen to the body’s signals early and address them proactively.”
