Woman’s club presents recycled bench to Dutch Fork Elementary

Plastic film collection earns school a Trex bench through recycling challenge

IRMO — The Lake Murray-Irmo Woman’s Club recently presented a recycled Trex bench to Dutch Fork Elementary School after collecting 1,750 pounds of plastic film through the NexTrex Recycling Challenge.

The collection was made possible with support from club partners Irmo Branch Library, Sherwin-Williams, Trevett’s: Print + Mail, and Wilson’s Refrigeration and Air in Pomaria. The amount collected qualified the club to receive the bench, which was donated to the school.

Pictured with the bench, from left, are Nanette Butler, Kathy Wilkins, Heather Crater, Peggy Grillot, Maribeth Corbett and Marilyn Bedenbaugh.

A member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Lake Murray-Irmo Woman’s Club established the first Okra Strut in 1974 to raise funds for an Irmo library branch. The club continues to support the Irmo Branch Library and, along with the Okra Strut Commission, sponsors annual scholarships for seniors at Dutch Fork and Irmo high schools.
