Youth Wrestling Camp Open for Registration

The soon-to-be-launched Irmo Youth Wrestling Club KingPins, in collaboration with the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission, is excited to announce its first-ever Youth Wrestling Camp. The camp will be held at the Seven Oaks Gymnasium Facility starting June 24 and will run daily from 8 AM to noon through June 28.

The aim of the camp is to introduce young athletes in the greater Irmo community to the sport of wrestling, fostering interest and participation at middle school, high school, and club levels. Tommy Sevilla, the head wrestling coach at Irmo Middle School and a highly credentialed youth wrestling coach, expressed his enthusiasm for the camp, stating, “Our goal is to provide a strong foundation in wrestling for our youth. We hope this camp will inspire them to compete at higher levels and contribute to the success of local wrestling programs.”

Sevilla, who has successfully coached his children to numerous state titles and regional accolades, believes that Irmo has the potential to become a wrestling powerhouse once again. He noted, “Irmo has a rich history of wrestling success, and with the strong community support and talented athletes here, I’m confident we can revitalize that legacy. South Carolina’s youth are incredibly promising, and with more opportunities like this camp, they can excel even further.”

The Irmo Youth Wrestling Camp promises to be an engaging and intensive experience, offering training in both Folkstyle and Freestyle wrestling. Participants will benefit from the expertise of top coaches from local high schools and middle schools, as well as accomplished state and national champions. The camp will also feature guest clinicians and current and former college wrestlers, providing a comprehensive training experience.

Sevilla emphasized the broader benefits of wrestling, saying, “Beyond the sport, we want to see these kids develop self-esteem, improve their health, and potentially earn college scholarships. We’re committed to putting South Carolina wrestling on the map and giving our athletes the respect they deserve.”

With the camp expected to reach full capacity, interested participants are encouraged to register soon. Spots are filling up quickly, and registration is open to boys and girls of all skill levels. The camp is an excellent opportunity for young wrestlers to develop their skills, meet new friends, and gain valuable experience in a supportive environment.
