18 District Five teachers earn National Board Certification

IRMO — Eighteen additional Lexington-Richland School District Five teachers earned National Board Certification this year, while 12 educators successfully renewed their certifications.

With the additions, School District Five now has 250 National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs), ranking the district among the top in South Carolina for educators holding the prestigious credential.

“National Board Certified teachers in the district play an essential role in improving teaching and learning,” said Dr. Tamara Turner, the district’s chief human resources officer. “Many of our NBCTs pursue professional learning opportunities well beyond the certification journey. We support these educators by providing platforms for them to be active voices in education policy, inspire and coach colleagues, and pursue leadership roles.”

National Board Certification is a voluntary, advanced credential that requires educators to complete a rigorous, performance-based process. Candidates submit teaching portfolios, student work samples, classroom videos and detailed analyses of instruction and student learning, along with written assessments measuring subject-matter knowledge and instructional effectiveness.
