6th Annual Irmo Juneteenth Celebration to Honor Local History and Feature Live Performance by The Voice’s Tia Duran

The African American Historical Society of Irmo (AAHSI) proudly invites the community to honor the past and inspire the future at the 6th Annual Irmo Juneteenth Celebration. This family-friendly event will take place on Friday, June 19, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Moore Park, located at 7473 Church Street.

While Juneteenth recognizes the national significance of freedom, Irmo’s celebration offers a unique twist by deeply rooting itself in local heritage. This year’s event will specifically spotlight the local historians, trailblazers, and community leaders who have shaped the culture and legacy of Irmo, the state of South Carolina, and the nation.

“Our celebration creates a powerful blend of cultural education and community pride,” said an AAHSI representative. “By honoring both national history and our own local trailblazers, we provide a truly one-of-a-kind experience that brings the Irmo community closer together.”

Attendees can look forward to a vibrant lineup of activities and attractions, including:

The Pop-Up Irmo History Museum: A deep dive into the rich local heritage and stories of Irmo’s African American community.

Live Entertainment: Capping off the night from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a powerful live performance by Tia Durant, “The Princess of Soul” and former contestant on NBC’s The Voice.

Interactive Zones: A dedicated Kids’ Zone packed with activities, alongside a Health and Wellness Zone offering community resources.

Supporting the Community: Food Drive Initiative

In the true spirit of community lifting, attendees are encouraged to participate in a local food drive on their way into the park. Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 1150 Lake Murray Blvd, will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items to support local families in need.
