Abigail White, a 2024 graduate of Chapin High School, has been awarded the prestigious PAGE Five’s 2024 Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship. Abigail, the daughter of Amy and Eric White, will receive a $1,000 merit-based scholarship to support her studies at the University of South Carolina, where she will attend the Honors College and major in Nursing. Abigail aspires to work as a nurse and eventually attend anesthesia school to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
One particularly influential experience for Abigail was her Biomedical Innovations class at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies. Reflecting on her time in the class, Abigail shared, “My second year, I received a grant [from the District Five Foundation for Educational Excellence] to create my own research project, which continued to spark my interest in helping others, particularly my Nana with Macular Degeneration.”
In addition to her impressive academic achievements, Abigail was actively involved in numerous extracurricular activities. She was a member of several honors societies and clubs, including the National Technical Honors Society, National Honors Society, National Spanish Honors Society, National Beta Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Abigail also excelled in athletics, participating in Chapin Track and Field, Chapin Cross Country, and Chapin Lacrosse, earning 14 varsity letters. She holds multiple track and cross country records at Chapin High School, including records in the 1600m, “true” one mile, 1500m, 3200m, 800m, 4x800m, “true” two mile, DMR, 4x1600m, and the 5k cross country record for 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. “My love and ability for running has given me the opportunity of earning a scholarship to run collegiately on the D1 level for UofSC!” Abigail added.
The PAGE Five Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors in good standing at a District Five high school who participate in International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), and/or Honors courses. Applicants must be on course to graduate in the spring and enroll in college in the fall of the same year. They are required to submit an application and an essay, and candidates are evaluated based on their academic achievements and the quality of their essay.
PAGE Five is a volunteer, non-profit support network dedicated to enhancing education and advocating for gifted and talented students in School District Five of Lexington and Richland counties.
