A structure fire at the River Oak Apartments displaced 23 residents the morning of June 15.
Irmo Fire and crews from several other fire agencies responded to the two alarm blaze around 10 am at the 5300 block of Old Bush River Road.
The building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived but was brought under control with help from Columbia, Lexington and Columbia-Richland fire departments. One civilian was transported to a local hospital for minor injures and an aggressive search was mounted for trapped victims. No one was found inside and four of the building’s eight units were heavily damaged and suffered water damage.
No firefighters were injured during the call and the case is under investigation for cause. Irmo Fire can be reached at 803-798-4979.
