With the varsity basketball regular season winding down this week, the Irmo boys clawed their way back to the top of Region 5-AAAA last week, along with A. C. Flora and Ridge View in conference wins and losses.
At the same time, the Irmo girls hold steady at No. 4, the Dutch Fork girls are second in Region 4-AAAAA, the Silver Fox boys stand at No. 3, and the Chapin girls and boys are both at No. 4 in the same region.
After taking three straight losses recently, the Irmo boys (19-5, 5-3) bounced back last week with a 53-51 win against Ridge View (13-11, 5-3) and a 48-41 victory over A. C. Flora (12-11, 5-3).
And after winning two straight games two weeks ago, Irmo’s varsity girls (8-12, 3-5) took losses last week against Ridge View (51-35) and Flora (61-30). That puts the Yellow Jackets at No. 4 just behind Westwood (20-4, 8-0), Ridge View (11-13, 6-2) and A. C. Flora 15-9, 5-3).
Irmo had a play date at Westwood early this week and will wrap the regular season on Friday with a road game at Lugoff-Elgin.
Dutch Fork’s varsity girls (12-8, 5-1) earned their second and third consecutive victories last week with an 88-19 win against White Knoll (3-22, 0-7) and a win against Chapin (7-10, 1-5).
Lexington remains at the top of Region 4-AAAAA at 17-6, 6-1, then the Silver Foxes, followed by River Bluff at 13-9, 4-2.
The Dutch Fork boys (8-12, 3-3) came in at No. 3 in the region last week after a 67-39 win against White Knoll (8-17, 0-7) and a 58-50 loss at Chapin. The Eagles (7-14, 2-4) are just behind Dutch Fork at No. 4.
After Tuesday’s game versus River Bluff on Tuesday, this week, Dutch Fork will complete the regular season in a home game against Lexington on Thursday.
Chapin will wrap up the season at home against River Bluff on Thursday after the early week game against White Knoll.
To begin the week, Lexington is at No. 1 in girls and boys region competition, while River Bluff is at No. 2 on the boys side and at No. 3 in the girls competition.
