Irmo Elementary School teacher Erin Backman and Karina Burgess have been named the Irmo Chamber’s Student and Teacher of the Month.
“Mrs. Backman is a 4th grade teacher and currently serves as our Teacher of the Year. She is a wonderful representation of what makes our school special,” Acting Principal Carolyn Cavanaugh said. “She works incredibly hard for her students and brings creativity and innovation into her classroom. She is constantly thinking about how she can make learning better for her students. She is a true team player who shares ideas and supports her colleagues and is always willing to jump in and help. We are so lucky to have her a part of our school.”
Cavanaugh said, “Karina is the kind of student that makes the classroom a better place just by being in it. She has an outstanding work ethic and genuinely cares about her learning and academic growth. She is a wonderful friend and supports everyone around her. She represents so much of what we hope to see in all of our students. We are so thankful that she is a part of the hive.”
