Irmo residents will have an opportunity to meet the candidates for the upcoming town of Irmo elections at a Meet and Greet event scheduled Nov. 1.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Craft and Draft in the Irmo Village Shopping Center on St. Andrews Road. Refreshments will be served.
Mayor Barry Walker Sr. is seeking re-election but faces opposition from Mayor Pro-tem Bill Danielson.
Irmo has seen just one incumbent file to keep their place with two at-large seats up for grabs. Erik Sickinger is seeking re-election, while Kelly Busch is leaving his council post.
Sickinger is running alongside four challengers in Phyllis Coleman, George Frazier, Jeff Allen, and Gabriel Penfield.
The Irmo News has been informed that questions about residency requirements have been raised about two candidates, Coleman and Frazier.
When contacted by The Irmo News, Lenice Shoemaker, Director of Voter Registration and Elections for Lexington County, said both candidates have been contacted and currently are determined to be valid candidates. She said her agency will stay informed of any issues involving residency.
