HARIBSON WEST – Harbison West Elementary Gifted and Talented Development Magnet School was filled with excitement on April 23, 2025, as Cocky’s Reading Express made a special visit to promote literacy and inspire a love of reading among students.
Cocky, the University of South Carolina’s beloved mascot, arrived with plenty of energy — and books — to share. The visit was part of a larger initiative that travels across the state, encouraging students of all ages to embrace reading in a fun and engaging way.
Teachers and staff at Harbison West praised the event for its impact. “Having Cocky’s Reading Express here today has truly ignited a spark in our students,” said Mrs. Klemz, the event organizer. “It’s a wonderful way to show them that reading can be fun and exciting.”
The day concluded with a book giveaway, allowing each student to select a free book to take home and continue their reading journey beyond the classroom.
