Reading through the September 22, 2021 issue of the New Irmo News, I ran across Cox Family BBQ’s ad and thought I would give it a try.
It’s tucked into a corner and a little hard to find and I thought, this is a positive sign; as some of South Carolina’s famous BBQ is found in road stops and out-of-the-way places. And Cox Family BBQ did not disappoint. I had the pulled pork plate and the meat was delicious. With every bite, I could taste the sweet wood flavor — in the meat — not in the sauce which is so often the case. I’m going to try the brisket next.
This place has a real old-timey feel to it. There is a comfortable family-type porch at the entrance and Brian Cox will serve you while keeping an eye on his 3 1/2-year-old playing in the next room.
Look, y’all, give these people a little of your business, you won’t be disappointed and you will help keep this treasure in Irmo.
