District Five announces new Director of Student Services

Veteran educator Kelly Brown has been named the Director of Student Services for Lexington-Richland School District Five. Brown previously held the title of Student Services Officer for the district.

Brown, who has served in numerous leadership roles in the district since 2011, is excited to take on the new role. “I am excited for the opportunity to continue serving students, families, and our D5 staff in this new capacity. I will continue to support our families and staff while providing engaging, challenging and enriching opportunities for all students in a safe learning environment.”

As Director of Student Services, Brown will continue to supervise the district’s student support services. The new position will be responsible for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports and other documents legally required or administratively useful to ensure an effective and efficient system-wide student discipline program. The Student Services Department works to assist in removing barriers, whether they are educational, behavioral, or environmental that might impede school success.

Chief of Student Services and Planning, Dr. Michael Harris, is excited for Ms. Brown to continue advancing the district in regards to student services. “Ms. Kelly Brown is by far the most talented Student Services professional I have known. Her efforts are recognized locally, throughout the State of South Carolina and now nationally for her tireless and inexhaustible support of students, staff and schools in District Five. I am often in awe of her creativity, resourcefulness and ability to navigate the most challenging situations. This appointment as Director of Student Services is a WIN for School District Five!”
