Irmo High School student athlete Matthew Blocker has been named to participate on the South Carolina High School League’s (SCHSL) Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Blocker is one of 15 students selected statewide to participate in the council which represents each SCHSL classification and the more than 100,000 athletic participants.
Blocker is a junior football and track athlete. He was selected by the Irmo High School Athletic Administration to represent the 4A classification because of his outstanding academic performance, his athletic leadership, and his continuous display of character both on and off the field.
“I have always asked myself the why me question in everything I do because I believe that there is a purpose in everything a human being desires to do,” Blocker said. “I’m thankful to have the opportunity to be selected and excited to see what the future holds for the SAAC.”
The purpose of the council is to provide a voice for student-athletes within the SCHSL governance structure.
“I am thrilled that Matthew Blocker was chosen as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council for the South Carolina High School League,” Irmo High School Athletic Director Paul Calvert said. “This selection is a testament to his work ethic on the football field, the track, and in the classroom. Matthew boasts over a 4.9 GPA, demonstrates great character, is highly respected by his coaches and teammates, and has a strong spirit of Yellow Jacket pride. I know he will do a great job representing our school on the state level.”
