District Five Educator Chosen for Statewide Leadership Program

IRMO – Dutch Fork Elementary School’s afterschool program director and computer teacher, Cissy Graham, has been named to the fourth class of the South Carolina Afterschool Leaders Empowered (SCALE) Fellowship.

SCALE brings together 20 emerging leaders in afterschool and summer learning from across the state each year. Fellows gain tools to strengthen partnerships, secure funding, expand evidence-based programs, and improve learning opportunities for students. The program blends in-depth discussion with hands-on learning and is led by a faculty of experts in education.

“I am incredibly excited and honored to be a part of the SCALE Fellowship with Furman University,” Graham said. “This opportunity has been both inspiring and transformative. I’m gaining valuable knowledge and tools that are enhancing the quality of my afterschool programming and making a positive impact during the school day. Being part of a network of passionate leaders across South Carolina has truly empowered me to grow both personally and professionally.”

The fellowship starts with a weeklong intensive at Furman University, followed by monthly webinars, site visits to innovative programs, and a capstone project. Fellows will also travel to visit a nationally recognized summer learning program.

The Riley Institute at Furman University and the South Carolina Department of Education partner to offer the SCALE Fellowship each year.
