The District Five Foundation has received a $500 donation from the Lexington County Bar Association to support the Snack Pack Program.
The Snack Pack program is a collaborative effort between the District Five Foundation, local churches, and the School District that provides nutritional food for District Five students who do not have enough to eat through the weekend.
The hope in supplying nutritional food is not only to fill a hungry belly, but also to give children the focus to be ready to learn come Monday morning without the worry of hunger.
The District Five Foundation provides funding for weekend Snack Packs to identified students. Each Friday, volunteers supply Snack Packs to each of the 23 schools in School District Five. The Snack Packs are then discretely distributed to those in need. A typical Snack Pack contains 16 to 20 easy-to-eat food items including, but not limited to: Breakfast Bars; Ravioli/Canned Pasta; Rice Krispy Treats; Fruit Snacks; Macaroni & Cheese Cups; Applesauce Cups; Juice Boxes; Fruit Cups; Ramen Noodles; Lance Crackers; Instant Grits; and Oatmeal.
