Lexington-Richland School District Five marching bands achieved impressive results in the South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA) 3A and 4A State Championships on October 26, 2024.
Chapin High School’s Pride of the Midlands Marching Band was named the 4A Lower State Champion and took Runner-Up in the 4A State Championship. “I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication the students had this season,” said Chapin Band Director Alex Clark. “We challenged these students, and they responded incredibly well. I couldn’t be more thankful for the support from our students, staff, parents, and community!”
The Dutch Fork Silver Spirit Band earned a Superior Rating, qualified for finals, and placed 7th overall in the 4A division at River Bluff High School. Dutch Fork Band Director Joseph Miller, in his first season with the band, said, “I couldn’t be happier with the way everyone welcomed me to Dutch Fork. We all joined forces and represented School District Five at the highest level!”
Irmo High School’s marching band placed 9th in the 3A prelims and maintained 9th place in finals. Band Director Tyrell James, who started leading the band in late August, expressed his pride in the students’ resilience. “The kids adapted to my methods quite well, and I couldn’t be prouder of their performance this season,” James said.
School District Five Coordinator of Athletics, Visual & Performing Arts, and Physical Education, Steven Puckett, commended the bands’ accomplishments. “Our district is proud to celebrate the arts in the classroom, on the field, and beyond. It was amazing to see our community come together and support our students this competition season.”
Congratulations to all three bands for their hard work, dedication, and achievements!
