Veteran educator Kelly Remia has been named the new coordinator of School District Five’s Flexible Innovative Virtual Education (FIVE) Program. Remia currently serves as interim coordinator of the program and replaces Dr. Jina Blount who retired in August.
“I am thankful for this opportunity to continue to serve the students, staff, and families of the FIVE Virtual Program,” Remia said. “The faculty and staff of FIVE are a unique group of educators that step outside the box to provide students with a flexible and innovative way of learning. I look forward to continuing academic excellence by connecting and creating a community in a virtual environment that will support the social, emotional, and academic needs of our students.”
Remia has been a professional educator for nearly 23 years. She attended Columbia College earning a bachelor’s degree in Special Education. Remia also earned a master’s degree in Divergent Learning from Columbia College and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University. Prior to serving in the FIVE Program, she served as an assistant principal at Irmo Middle School and an assistant administrator at Blythewood Academy in Richland School District Two.
“Mrs. Remia is an enthusiastic leader who has focused on building positive and supportive relationships with students, faculty and parents to support the growth of all students,” said Chief of Academics and Administration Anna Miller. “Her leadership experience, knowledge, and passion make her the perfect choice to lead our FIVE program.”
