Dutch Fork Elementary Science Fair Team Wins 1st Place with Innovative Project

Dutch Fork Elementary, an Environmental Magnet School in Lex-Rich Five, recently celebrated a remarkable achievement at its annual Science Fair. Under the direction of the school’s Resident Scientist, Mrs. Amy Umberger, students showcased their creativity and scientific curiosity through a variety of projects.

Among the participants, a team of three young men—Shawn, Trevor, and Marshall—stood out with their project, “The Battle of Retaining Heat.” Their innovative approach and hard work earned them 1st place at the school level, advancing them to compete at the District level.

As an environmental magnet school, Dutch Fork Elementary fosters a love of science and a connection to the natural world, encouraging students to think critically and creatively about real-world challenges. Projects like “The Battle of Retaining Heat” exemplify this commitment, blending hands-on learning with environmental awareness.

The team’s success was supported by the guidance of mentor Mike Ward, a local entrepreneur and volunteer who provided encouragement and expertise throughout the project.

Local schools are always looking for volunteers to help with projects like the Science Fair. Opportunities like these allow community members to make a lasting impact on young learners while supporting programs that promote innovation and academic excellence.

Dutch Fork Elementary and the entire community are proud of Shawn, Trevor, and Marshall for their dedication and achievement. Best of luck to this talented team as they represent the school at the District level!
