Dutch Fork wins 7th straight game

While Lexington and River Bluff battled for the Region 4-5A baseball title, Dutch Fork still has visions of finishing in second place.

While the Wildcats and Gators started a crucial three-game series Tuesday in The Swamp, the Silver Foxes played host to Irmo for a two-game set. They opened with a 12-2 win in five innings to improve to 7-3 in the region.

Dutch Fork jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Luciano Cesario and 2-run single by Boykin Bickley.

The Yellow Jackets answered with two runs off errors in the Top 2nd. Both Trevor Williams and Ty Rivers scored off the miscues. Dutch Fork answered with a five-run rally in the Bottom 3rd, three runs scored off a wild pitch and fielding error.

The Silver Foxes closed out their seventh straight win with four runs in the fifth inning. Blake Splitgerber and Braydon Johnson both had RBI hits and Raleigh Salters ended the game with a 2-run single.

With River Bluff’s 6-3 loss to Lexington, Dutch Fork moved into a second place tie in the lost column. A win Thursday at Irmo coupled with a Gators’ loss at the Wildcats gives the Silver Foxes an opportunity to claim sole possession of second place.
