Girls’ high school golf is getting into the full swing of their season. Mid Carolina Club in Prosperity hosted the Palmetto Preview on Tuesday, September 5th. The Lady Eagles of Chapin took the Team Championship with a team total of sixteen over par over Dorman High School at twenty-one over par. Finishing third was the Lady Wildcats of Lexington at forty-one over par. High school golf is a team format combined with an individual tournament.
In the individual part of the Palmetto Preview Caroline Hawkins had a great tournament with a round of 63, yes that is right ten under par 63!!! Mia Andrade of Chapin finished second with another great round of 68 five under par. WOW, what great playing by these ladies!!! Taryn Smoke of Lexington and Lily Reed Black of Chapin finished 10th.
Chapin is the #1 ranked team in Girls 5A while Lexington is #4 and River Bluff #6.
High School girls’ golf season is in the Fall while the boys play in the Spring.
Your practice tip this week can be done at home, working on controlling your chipping by going out in the yard and chip to a bucket, towel, or paper plate from different distances. Trying to land the ball on these targets will help you control your chips. Then picture whatever target you chip to in the yard on the green and try to place that target in your mind where the ball needs to land and then roll into the hole.
