Harbison West Elementary School’s Joanna Neal and 5th grader Laken Williams have been named the Irmo Chamber of Commerce’s September Teacher and Student of the Month.
“Joanna Neal is our Teacher of the Year because she goes above and beyond her duties,” Principal Randy Norman said. “Mrs. Neal has been teaching for 13 years and I know that I can always count on her for any support I need. She loves our students here at Harbison West Elementary and we are grateful to have her at our school.”
Norman said, “Laken is a hard worker inside the classroom and outside the school. She is very empathetic and very respectful and open-minded. I cannot think of a student more deserving of this award.”
The Irmo Chamber also recognized CrossRoads Intermediate 6th Grader Evelyn Lopez Ochoa and teacher Dawn Oswalt as their October honorees.
Principal Dr. Erin Doty said Evelyn Lopez Ochoa is a hard worker and one of the kindest students that she has ever met. She is always welcoming to other students.
“Mrs. Oswalt is our Teacher of the Year at CrossRoads serving as a behavioral interventionist,” Doty said. “Dawn supports teachers by giving them tools to support students with behavior and other needs. She is always willing to meet with a student or teacher who is in need and do what she can to help.”
