River Springs Elementary School second-grade student Ava Mae Pierce and teacher Lauri Williams have been named the Irmo Chamber of Commerce’s Student and Teacher of the Month.
Williams, who serves as the school’s Teacher of the Year, was praised by Principal Matt Gams for her dedication to her students and her ability to build lasting relationships.
“She is a teacher who makes a difference,” Gams said. “She is truly passionate about her job, and she has a caring heart that shines through when she is working with students in the classroom. She builds relationships with her students that last more than just one year. She is a wonderful teacher, and I am so happy she is part of the River Springs family.”
Gams described Pierce as a hardworking student who comes to school ready to learn each day.
“Ava Mae is the kind of student that makes the classroom a better place just by being in it,” he said. “She lives by our Gator Rules, which are to grow and learn each day, achieve your personal best, take responsibility for what you say and do, offer to help others, and respect everyone. She is a wonderful young lady, and we are so thankful she is a part of our school.”
