There is a new club open to anyone who is interested in casual chess.
Currently holding meetings at Starbucks 1245 Lake Murray Blvd, Irmo, SC 29063, the Irmo Chess Club had its first Event on August 7.
The founder, James Brandmair, says, “I’m hoping I can grow the club into something reputable, that has casual chess, lessons, and official USCF-rated play.”
In time, Brandmair hopes to establish “a brick and mortar chess club, that teaches lessons, holds club matches, and national level tournaments.”

According to Brandmair, “Chess can assist in the enhancement of life skills and brain development. There are many benefits to playing chess which include: improved reading and writing skills, improved creativity, increased problem-solving ability and enhanced planning and foresight ability.”
