Irmo Community Cookout Draws Hundreds to Rawls Creek Park

Hundreds of residents gathered at Rawls Creek Park on Friarsgate Boulevard on Friday, June 5, for the annual Irmo Community Cookout, an event focused on fellowship, community engagement, and service.

Attendees enjoyed free hot dogs and hamburgers fresh off the grill, along with frozen treats provided by Kona Ice of Irmo/Chapin. Families and neighbors spent the day socializing while enjoying the park’s amenities.

Serve and Connect distributed boxes of food through Greg’s Groceries, a program that provides food assistance to families in need while honoring the legacy of Officer Greg Alia, whose commitment to strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community continues to inspire the initiative.

The cookout was sponsored by the Mayor’s Uplift Initiative and the Town of Irmo. Virtus Construction provided the grill and served food throughout the event. The company also contributed the basketball courts installed earlier this year at Rawls Creek Park.

The event was held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and brought together residents, community organizations, local businesses, and town leaders for an afternoon of food, fun, and community spirit.
