The renowned Irmo Marching Band is in band camp this week in spite of the pandemic.
“We’ve had to make a few changes to work this out,” said Assistant Band Director Laurie Turner.
The sections such as woodwinds and brass are rehearsing in the parking lot of the high school while practicing social distancing and the percussion section rehearses indoors. The flag corps practices in the stadium.
“Right now we are scheduled for three home games and the layout on the field will look a little different,” said Turner. “We are keeping all are students safe while still enjoying the experience during this challenging time.”
The bands are working on Broadway tunes that were selected by Irmo Band Director Roger Simpson with input from some of the seniors. Rehearsals will pick back up again at the beginning of September.
