IRMO, S.C. — The Irmo Town Council honored a milestone in local sports history during its recent meeting, recognizing the 1980 Irmo High School Yellow Jackets football team for winning the state championship.
Mayor Bill Danielson presented a proclamation on behalf of the council honoring the players, coaches, managers and supporters whose dedication, discipline, teamwork and perseverance helped bring the state title to Irmo.
The proclamation noted that the historic 1980 season generated widespread pride and excitement throughout the town and the Midlands region.
Town leaders emphasized that the team’s accomplishments established a standard of excellence that continues to inspire student-athletes both on the playing field and in the classroom.
The town also expressed gratitude to the families and supporters whose commitment helped make the championship season possible, celebrating a legacy of hard work, teamwork and community spirit that remains an important part of Irmo’s heritage.
