Irmo Town Councilman Bill Danielson formally files documents to run for Mayor

Irmo businessman, Bill Danielson has officially filed his paperwork to run for Mayor of Irmo. Danielson, who was first elected to Irmo Town Council in a special election in March of 2020 and reelected to a full term in 2021, is, a successful local businessman for over 30 years who has brought a much needed conservative business approach to Town Council.

“I want to continue to make Irmo a great place to live and do business for everyone,” said Danielson.

During his time on the Town Council, Danielson has worked to support our local small business community. He helped support local businesses affected by COVID-19 by establishing the Irmo Future Growth Corporation. He helped move the building permit process back from Lexington County to the Town of Irmo generating additional revenue for the Town while reducing wait times for permits for new construction or repairs.

Danielson said, as Mayor, “I will work hard to enhance and grow our business community while strengthening our local economy.” Danielson cited the need for fiscal responsibility in these rapidly changing economic times. BY cutting waste and prioritizing projects Danielson believes the Town will be better positioned to fully fund the most important functions like law enforcement and our first responders. “We recently lost an outstanding firefighter in the line of duty. I will do everything possible to support our first responders who keep our homes and businesses safe by giving them the tools they need to do the job.”

Danielson recently approved the acquisition of new police vehicles, increases in law enforcement starting salaries plus a competitive cost of living adjustment. The Irmo Fire District has recently acquired two new engines and expects a ladder truck delivered in October of this year.

Danielson will also focus on making sure that the Town’s growth does not make life more difficult for current residents. He will continue his efforts to implement impact fees on new construction to reduce traffic and improve roads by working with state and local governments to come up with common-sense solutions to the gridlock residents are facing every day.

“I love Irmo and have enjoyed running a successful small business in the area for more than 30 years,” said Danielson. He has brought that same conservative business approach to Town Council.

“We need a fiscally conservative Mayor who will put our citizens first,” Danielson said. “And I will continue to listen to Irmo residents every day that I am privileged to serve in office.”

Bill is a USC Graduate. He was appointed by Governor Haley to represent the 2nd Congressional District on the SC Commission of Disabilities and Special Needs. He served as a board member of many organizations including the Babcock Center, Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce, Glenforest School and the SC Philharmonic.

Bill is married to wife Peggy and they have two children and one grandchild. The election will be held on November 7th.
