IRMO – Akeylah Howard, an Irmo resident, has graduated from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) in Spartanburg, earning multiple accolades for her outstanding performance and leadership.

Howard was honored with the Outstanding Senior Award, Applied Academic Student of the Year recognition, the Spartanburg Civitan Club Award, the Norman Pulliam Scholarship, the Dunbar Scholarship, and the Academic Achievement Award.
An active member of her school community, Howard participated in goalball, basketball, and cheerleading. She also served with the Leo Club, showcasing her dedication to community service and leadership.
Looking ahead, Howard plans to attend Midlands Technical College to pursue a career as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). Her motivation and determination are inspired by one of her favorite quotes, from her teacher Dr. Adeyanju Okungbowa: “Never let your disabilities hinder you in your life, always strive to succeed.”
