On May 21, Moore Bradley Myers celebrated S. Jahue “Jake” Moore’s 50 years of practicing law with special honors at Stone River in West Columbia. With more than 200 friends, family, colleagues, and dignitaries in attendance, MBM’s Senior and Founding Partner was presented with the Order of the Palmetto – South Carolina’s Highest Civilian Honor, by Lexington County Representative Paula Calhoun.

The Order of the Palmetto is “presented in recognition of a lifetime of extraordinary achievement, service, and contributions on a national or statewide scale. The Order of the Palmetto recognizes individuals who have selflessly given of their time, resources, and goodwill through a variety of different causes and pursuits to the benefit of their neighbors, fellow citizens and the fabric and prosperity of South Carolina.”
Moore is a graduate of Presbyterian College and the University of South Carolina School of Law, now named the Joseph F. Rice School of Law. Moore is a member of the S.C. Trial Lawyers Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He taught at the USC School of Law and has lectured at many continuing legal education seminars. He also has served on the Legislative Audit Council for South Carolina’s General Assembly.
One of the many ways that Moore has given back to the Midlands community is by serving as Alumni Advisor for Pi Kappa Alpha at Presbyterian College for 25 years, Chairman of theBoard of Visitors for the University of South Carolina, a longtime Sunday School teacher at Ashland Methodist Church, and founding member of the West Columbia Beautification Committee and Irmo’s Arbor Day Committee.
“Mr. Jake Moore’s commitment to public service, civic leadership, and community enhancement has left a beautiful mark on our town. From securing the Irmo Veterans Park to providing great legal advice to the Town Council for decades, Mr. Moore has exemplified what it means to be a servant leader. Dedicating our Community Park in 2024 to “Moore Park” in his honor has been a fitting tribute to a man whose vision and heart have helped shape Irmo into the community we love today,” stated Courtney Dennis, Town Administrator for the Town of Irmo.
In addition to the state’s highest civilian honor, Moore also received a resolution and a Key to the City from Tem Miles, Mayor of the City of West Columbia. Mayor Miles, who; like Moore, has family from Lake City, presented Moore with a Resolution and Key to the City. He noted that the Key to the City of West Columbia has only been given out a handful of times. One was presented to State Senator Nikki Setzler on his 48 years of service, and another was presented to University of South Carolina Women’s Basketball Coach, Dawn Staley, for winning three NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championships.
The Key to the City of West Columbia was presented to Jake Moore on May 21.
Miles stated, “While the work Jake has done for our communities is well-noted, it is the things that he has does for others behind the scenes that define his true character. He has left his mark on the legal world as an excellent litigator and a dogged negotiator. But Jake Moore is known for having a big heart and a giving spirit. What an incredible night to honor his lifelong impact!”
Moore previously received the Key to the City for the Town of Irmo and was named as the Greater Cayce West Columbia Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 2015.
Moore Bradley Myers partner, Ward Bradley, also spoke about Moore’s legacy, stating, “Jake Moore has worked tirelessly for his country, his state, his community, his family, his friends, andhis law firm for over fifty years. We are lucky to have him as a law partner and a friend, and we are so pleased that he is continuing to lead our firm forward. Congratulations to a great friend, a great lawyer, and a great person.”
